Ouled Abdoun Basin, Morocco
Late Cretaceous ~70 million years old
This substantial vertebra once formed part of the spine of a Mosasaur, a powerful marine reptile that dominated the Late Cretaceous seas. Growing up to 15 metres in length, Mosasaurs were apex predators, propelling themselves through warm prehistoric oceans with strong, paddle-like limbs and a sweeping tail.
After death, the bone settled into seabed sediments where mineral-rich waters gradually replaced its organic structure with stone. The dense, rounded centrum and projecting processes remain clearly defined, preserving the architecture of a formidable ocean hunter in striking sculptural form.
Weight: 1.685 kg
Dimensions: 180 × 150 × 65 mm
