Cesar Cueva’s photographic artworks explore the extraordinary colours, textures and patterns found within natural crystals and minerals. Their presence at B.C. House is a natural extension of the gallery’s philosophy: celebrating the artistry of the Earth.
Through photography, the materials we collect and display become something entirely new, transforming ancient formations into contemporary works of art.
The METHOD
A CLOSER LOOK
Through close-up photography, Cesar reveals details often overlooked by the naked eye. Intricate crystal structures, mineral inclusions and unexpected compositions become the subjects of his work. By isolating and enlarging these natural details, he transforms the familiar into the abstract, revealing extraordinary landscapes of colour, form and texture hidden within the Earth.

Policroma #14 (Refraction Study)
From Contrapunto — Policroma

Colour becomes structure as light refracts through a layered field of red and green. Using transparent crystal as a lens, painted pigment transforms into shifting architecture, fluid, luminous, and alive. In this study, Policroma #14 extends Contrapunto’s exploration of counterpoint, pairing the sculptural restraint of Monocromo with the chromatic intensity of the painted image, where fracture becomes colour and colour becomes form.

Policroma #15(Refraction Study)
From Contrapunto — Policroma

Strata of teal, violet, and sand sweep diagonally across the frame, caught between opacity and reflection. Filtered through a clear crystal lens, painted pigment transforms into a study of rhythm and restraint. In this work, Policroma III extends the Contrapunto dialogue between mineral and image, where movement becomes geometry, and colour becomes a quiet architecture of light.

Policroma #9 (Refraction Study)
From Contrapunto — Policroma

Bands of coral, ochre, and blue rise like columns of refracted light. Through a colourless crystal, painted pigment dissolves into layered translucency, a meeting of material and mirage. In this study, Policroma #9 continues the dialogue of Contrapunto, where Monocromo sculpts form from mineral and Policroma renders light as matter, inviting stillness within movement, and order within the abstract.
