The earth's interior, made visible.

Nothing here was designed

The geometry is a by-product of chemistry — atoms settling into the only arrangement available to them, then repeating it until the result is large enough to hold. Cubes, prisms, six-sided columns: all of it arithmetic, none of it intended. What reads as deliberate is simply what happened when nothing interrupted.

Structure

Minerals form in the gaps — a cavity left behind by cooling rock, a fracture that fills with mineral-bearing water, a pocket that stays undisturbed long enough for something to grow. Heat, chemistry, pressure and chance each contribute, across spans that are difficult to hold in mind.

We look for specimens where those conditions held steady. Interruption shows: crystals fracture, faces cloud, growth restarts at an angle. Uninterrupted is rarer than it sounds.
